Solar is good for our local economy and jobs.

Support Solar Made in Minnesota!

Background

We have an opportunity to increase Minnesota's use of solar on schools, town halls, police and fire stations! As legislators are debating the bonding bill, they need to hear from you that solar should be included in the final bill. Solar legislation has already been included in the House version of the bill - we need to encourage all legislators that solar should be included in the overall, final bill too.

Solar is good for our local economy and jobs. Solar saves the public money by making short-term clean energy investments for long-term savings. We can keep our energy dollars in Minnesota and promote a strong clean energy industry by supporting solar bonding and other solar policies.

Minnesota Solar Facts:
-- Minnesota has a solar resource similar to many southern states.
-- Solar panels actually work more efficiently in cooler climates.
-- Minnesota currently ranks 15 in solar energy production in the United States.
-- Minnesota has more than 100 businesses that sell or manufacture solar products and services.
-- Minnesota already has thousands of jobs in the solar industry.
-- Minnesota schools have enough roof space to install hundreds of megawatts of solar power!

In 2010 the solar energy industry grew 67 percent - despite an economic downturn in the overall economy. Minnesota has a vast, untapped solar energy potential that, if developed, will lead to greater energy independence and security, create high-quality solar industry jobs, and help spur economic development across the state.

Solar installations can be put up in a matter of months, immediately stimulating the manufacturing and construction industries that have been hardest hit by the recession. What’s more, investment in solar energy creates 14 jobs per $1 million invested — far outpacing jobs created by the development of traditional energy sources.[1]

By investing in solar in Minnesota, we can position the state to be a national leader, create manufacturing, installation and research jobs in our state, while reducing our dependence on imported energy and saving taxpayers money.

Dear Governor,

I urge you to support bonding for solar in Minnesota. Allowing bonding to be used for solar energy projects on community colleges and other public buildings will support the state’s growing solar energy industry. Solar manufacturing supports local economies throughout Minnesota and creates high-quality solar industry jobs.

Solar saves the public money by making short-term, clean energy investments for long-term savings. We can keep our energy dollars in Minnesota and promote a strong clean energy industry by supporting solar bonding and other solar policies.
